#HMBlog: Governor Ron DeSantis goes DOGE-y Style on the State of Florida
Tampa, FL - Gov. Ron DeSantis announced today in Tampa his own version of DOGE, the newly created Department of Government Efficiency spearheaded my Elon Musk in the Trump Administration. DeSantis announcing he’s axing 70 state boards and commissions, of course, since he has a R by him name, half the population thinks this is a bad thing.
Democratic State Rep. Anna Eskamani released the following statement about Florida DOGE:
"Let's be clear: the Republican Party has dominated our state government for nearly 30 years, and any inefficiencies are a direct result of their long-standing mismanagement. It's laughable that after decades in power, they now pretend to know how to fix what they themselves have broken. This is the same Governor who has squandered millions defending unconstitutional laws, inflated his budget with unnecessary election police forces, and funneled taxpayer dollars into partisan electioneering. He has no credibility when it comes to improving government efficiency.
Cutting 740 state jobs—especially those that engage with the public, safeguard our health, and hold corporations accountable—is not reform; it's a reckless dismantling of essential services. Emulating the disorder seen in federal mismanagement under figures like Elon Musk is not only misguided but dangerous for our state's future. I call on our Governor and our legislative colleagues to stop creating more problems and instead focus on real solutions for the challenges our state faces."
Blah, blah, blah, you know the drill. It’s actually a GOOD thing we have unelected bureaucrats making policy and eating up tax payer money with unnecessary positions. I swear, it’s exhausting. See the announcement below:
#HMBlog: Tampa Bay's Beer Can Island goes for broke on Cryptocurrency
Pine Key—Affectionately known to the locals as Beer Can Island—has officially hit rock bottom, or rather, eight feet under water, thanks to Hurricane Helene. The storm had a blast, literally, taking out the concert stage, tiki bar, giant slide, and food truck. Then, because one hurricane wasn't enough, Hurricane Milton breezed through, giving the island the equivalent of a bad hair transplant.
This once-hot party spot is now as closed as a clam, expected to stay that way for another six to nine months. But in true entrepreneurial spirit, or perhaps desperation, Russell Loomis, one of the island’s owners sees this as a "reset." His new, plan? Dive into the murky waters of cryptocurrency.
Introducing $PineKey- this coin, available on pump.fun (seriously, who names these sites?), isn't just for laughs; it'll buy you food, drinks, and even a piece of this soggy paradise.
"We're building a whole new crypto-ecosystem on the island," Loomis said in a recent interview with the Tampa Bay Times, probably while nursing a beer with a mini floating umbrella in it. He envisions this as a groundbreaking first for private islands.
For a cool $1,000 in $PineKey, you too can own a share of this drowned dream. They've sold over 1,000 shares, with less than 500 left.
The island, nestled between Apollo Beach and MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa Bay, was once up for sale for $14.2 million. Apparently, no one was willing to shell out for a submerged Diddy Party.
Loomis and his crew are now playing adult Legos with architects, engineers, lawyers, and the county to rebuild. They're planning to elevate everything by at least 8 feet.
And if this crypto venture takes off, say goodbye to Beer Can Island and hello to Solana Island, named after the blockchain network that $PineKey lives on. Loomis has already jumped the gun, securing domain names and social media handles.
"There's really nothing like it on the planet," Loomis said, which, given the state of the island, might actually be true.

#HMBlog: New Era's Tampa Bay Rays edition of ‘Local Market’ hat omits Tropicana Field’s 727 area code

The Tampa Bay Rays are on fire. They’ve won 11 straight and just took possession of first place in the AL East. Yes, there is still a lot of baseball to play but there is a buzz in St. Petersburg about their hometown team. Someone better tell that to New Era, the hat company who is the exclusive hat provider of Major League Baseball since 1993.
Each year, New Era puts out a “Local Market” edition of each baseball cities hometown. This year, the Rays cap features the state of Florida and the number 1998 in reference to the team’s inaugural season as well as Florida staples including a flamingo, a palm tree, and an orange. Also, the area code “813” is featured on the front of the cap. 813 which is centered on Tampa and includes surrounding communities such as Brandon, Land O’ Lakes, Oldsmar, Riverview, Thonotosassa, Town ‘n’ Country, Valrico and Zephyrhills.
The Rays play in St. Petersburg however, the 727 area code, which is not featured on the hat. The Rays may not be in St. Pete for long, with talks in process to redevelop the Trop site after the City of St. Pete and the Rays lease contract ends in 2027. However, for now, they reside in St. Pete, the 727! If nothing else, in the age of disinformation spreading across the internet, we need accuracy now more than ever. New Era needs to either fix this mistake or St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman needs to draft a militia to take over Tampa and surrounding area’s to win the battle of disinformation- either is fine with me.
#HMBlog: Did the Buccaneers just confirm new uniforms for next season on Twitter?
The Buccaneers uniforms stink, just about everyone is in agreement on that. They’ve been widely mocked on social media for their “alarm clock numbers” & for years the fans have been begging for a new design. Yesterday on the 11th buzz started on social platforms after official Bucs accounts started commenting the eyes emoji on posts calling for the new threads.
This morning, the Buccaneers released a video on their social platforms that seems to hint at fan’s prayers being answered. The Bucs are getting new uniforms…probably…it’s not confirmed but c’mon…this is happening…right?

#HMBlog: Study finds that Tampa Bay is polluted with 4 billion particles of microplastic
The University of South Florida - St. Petersburg in collaboration with Eckerd College released a study this week estimating 4 billion particles of microplastics swirling around in our local waters, these microplastics are small, less then 1/8 an inch and they breakdown from larger waste like water bottles & plastic bags. St. Petersburg has been active in banning plastics, by 2020 an ordinance will go into effect that will eliminate plastic straws and the distribution of Styrofoam products.
According to USA TODAY, the top plastic polluters in the world are: China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Thailand. So it’s a nice gesture but unlikely do actually do much in the long run to keep plastics out of the waters. Read more about the study here, I’m going to go have a coffee served in a paper cup and will disintegrate in my hands half way through.
#HMBlog: Tampa ranked Best City in Florida to live in by some weird website.
Some website called WalletHub (?) just named Tampa the Best City in Florida to live in Florida and the 15th Best City to Live in America! So…that’s pretty cool, I guess. I’m always weary of these just thrown together lists from seemingly arbitrary and subjective reasoning but apparently there’s some method to the madness here according to WFLA:
“The financial wellness company compared the 62 largest U.S. cities based on 56 indicators of attractiveness to potential residents.
With a data set that ranges from the quality of public schools and life expectancy to job opportunities and property taxes.
Tampa was ranked No. 4 overall for affordability, which included data such as the home-ownership rate, cost of living and median annual property taxes.
The city also had the fifth lowest crime rate among the 62 cities surveyed.”
So, uhh…yea that’s cool, I guess. Now all we have to do is not screw it up, SO DON’T SCREW IT UP!!!
#HMBlog: A Ybor City shop is on the hunt for their shoplifted horse fetus.

I’m not sure what’s more strange: a store selling a preserved horse fetus or someone wanting a preserved horse fetus so much that they steal it but that’s what the deal is because over the weekend, that’s exactly what happened. Dysfunctional Grace, a Ybor City novelty store took to social media to announce the heist and their desire to have it back:
Due to bad angles in the security camera footage, they were unable to spot the thief. Now, I don’t want to make any assumptions and make any sort of generalizations of who may want a horse fetus but I’d be on the lookout a large, red, man with horns and hooves for feet. #HMBlog: LOL Did This Lady Just Do The Cough-Slur at a Tampa City Council Meeting?
TAMPA- Carrie Henriquez, a legislative aide in the great city of Tampa had a bit of a frog in her throat at a recent City Council meeting. There was most certainly a cough as she walks behind Luis Viera…I don’t know who that is but I can assume he is a man and he is wearing glasses and he kind of looks like an asshole a little bit. This is a subjective opinion of course, I dunno, just something about his hair but I am a petty man. So yea, as she walks behind this fella she has a bit of a cough. She’s polite, covers her mouth and everything. Although, Carrie, you have to do the Vampire Cough if you really want to prevent the spread of germs in the workplace. This is simple stuff…
Anyway, she walks behind this dude and coughs- it kind of sounds like a word…a dirty word. A word that you may call someone who is an asshole. Some people are hearing “asshole” in the cough as she walks by. Luis’ face is classic after he she walks by. He has a look on his face like, “did this lady just cough-curse and call me an asshole?” She totally ripped this bit from Paul Rudd’s character in 40 Year Old Virgin but still, great stuff here, hilarious.
Carrie told the Tampa Bay Times that it was just a cough and nothing more but…this lady just totally called this Luis an asshole during a City Council meeting. What do you think? Can you hear it? Check out the video of the incident below:
Naughty Manatee's Put on a Sex Show for Commuters because this is Florida
What’s more “Tampa Bay” than a bunch of manatee’s getting their freak on during a a traffic jam on the Courtney Campbell? I don’t know, maybe if they were also on meth and wearing cutoff jean shorts before the deed. Manatee’s are Florida’s most beloved creatures in the water but it turns out their also dirty, nasty perverts who during mating season have giant orgies in order to breed. Just flippers everywhere, I don’t think that one is supposed to go there, you freak bitch. Anyway, From the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission:
Manatees mate in herds consisting of a focal female and multiple males, from a few to over a dozen, attempting to mate with her. Mating herds are most often observed during the warmer months, but can occur year-round. They can last anywhere from a few hours up to a week long. The manatees are often observed splashing or climbing on top of each other in the water.
Oh, okay then. Well, manatee’s it turns out you picked the right state to live in for your deviant habits. We’ve all got our thing, I guess. Check out some video of the act in nature’s glory below if you’re into that sort of thing but keep your flippers where we can see them, buddy.

The Homemade Broadcast this week, Rays baseball is back! Expectations are high buy will they make the playoffs? M’eh, I dunno, I don’t want to jinx them. A high profile activist For The People whose next cause is getting the minimum wage up to 15 dollars an hour here in Florida get’s called out by a local rag for not paying his employees 15 dollars an hour. The problem I found however is that they pay a third party company to take their inbound calls so the firm isn’t the one paying the workers directly. Some of these people are really, really bad at their jobs. And finally, Jussie Smollett gets 16 felony charges dropped out of the blue and don’t worry, there’s nothing fishy going at all, do not look behind the curtain.
