#HMBlog: Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer & current Raider, Carl Nassib, makes history as first active openly gay player in the NFL

Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman Carl Nassib became the first active NFL player in history to announce that he is gay. Nassib played for the Buccaneers in 2018-19 and has 12.5 sacks during that time. He took to his Instagram to make the announcement:
“What’s up people,” Nassib posted on Instagram. “I’m at my house in West Chester Pennsylvania. I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now but finally feel comfortable getting it off my chest. I really have the best life, the best family, friends and job a guy can ask for.
“I’m a pretty private person so I hope you guys know that I’m not doing this for attention. I just think that representation and visibility are so important. I actually hope that one day, videos like this and the whole coming out process are not necessary, but until then I will do my best and my part to cultivate a culture that’s accepting and compassionate and I’m going to start by donating $100,000 to the Trevor Project. They’re an incredible organization, they’re the number one suicide-prevention service for LGBTQ youth in America.”
Nassib, 28, is enterting his sixth NFL season, his second with the Raiders after stints with the Browns and Buccaneers. He has 20.5 career sacks.

Tampa Tom hit up the Buccaneers TikTok to go over some of the more infamous plays of the 2019-2020 Buccaneers season. Two were highlighted in particular, the first was a touchdown bomb to Scotty Miller. “Look at Scooter ... running by [King],” Brady said. “Bowling Green State University’s finest ... We’re not playing it safe. No risk it, no biscuit!”
The second highlighted clip was from an incomplete pass to Cameron Brate with 38 seconds left in Chicago, a play where Tom seemed to thing that it was 4th down with that incompletion, but alas, no, the game was over…
“You guys remember this one?” Brady asked, before face-palming himself. “Fourth quarter, last chance in Chicago. I thought it was the second-to-last chance in Chicago, but apparently not. I don’t think I’ve ever been as confused as I am in this moment right here. Look at that face.”
Now…do we believe him? Did he actually forget it was fourth down or was he trying to use his Tom Brady GOAT magic to try to convince the ref’s that maybe it was actually 4th down because how would the best QB of all time possibly screw that up? Well, even so, no matter, the Bucs still hoisted the Lombardi a few months later. We still love you, Tommy.
#HMBlog: Did the Buccaneers just confirm new uniforms for next season on Twitter?
The Buccaneers uniforms stink, just about everyone is in agreement on that. They’ve been widely mocked on social media for their “alarm clock numbers” & for years the fans have been begging for a new design. Yesterday on the 11th buzz started on social platforms after official Bucs accounts started commenting the eyes emoji on posts calling for the new threads.
This morning, the Buccaneers released a video on their social platforms that seems to hint at fan’s prayers being answered. The Bucs are getting new uniforms…probably…it’s not confirmed but c’mon…this is happening…right?

#HMBlog: Buccanners OL Alex Cappa Breaks Arm in 2nd Quarter, Plays Whole Game
There’s tough and then there’s Alex Cappa. Cappa broke his arm in the 2nd Quarter in the loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday but never came out of the game. Initially, he said it was just a bruise but Head Coach Bruce Arians' confirmed it was a broken arm:
“I have to commend Alex Cappa. He broke his arm in the second quarter and played the entire game,” Arians said. “He’ll miss a few weeks.”
That’s the type of man all of us strive to be. My grandfather died as a young man because his Appendix exploded and he didn’t go to the hospital because he thought he’d just shake it off, what a freaking badass. Meanwhile, my knee hurts and I will happily tell anyone about it who will allow me to bitch and complain to them for a little while. Sorry, guys.
#HMBlog: Buccaneers’ Kicker Matt Gay get's trolled by a woman's deodorant company.
If there’s anything we have learned over the past few years it’s that women can do anything men can do & do it better & to say that isn’t true is a hate crime! Buccaneer’s Kicker Matt Gay continued to play out the years long Tampa Bay Great Kicking Curse last week against the Giants, missing a 34 year game winning kick at the end of the game. It was a heart-breaker but nothing Buccaneer fan’s are not familiar with at this point. In fact Secret, a deodorant for woman that I have used a few times and works pretty well to be honest, put a full page ad in the Tampa Bay Times trolling the rookie Kicker and implying that perhaps US Soccer’s Carli Lloyd could have made that kick. No problem, she hit a un-defended 55 yard kick over the summer at a Eagles-Ravens practice. Matt Gay hit a 55 yarder on his first NFL kick against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the preseason and set the record long for Field Goals kicked at Heinz Field & at college in practice, Lou Groza Award winner made a 62-yarder that ‘would have been good from 70’.
Whatever, MAN, step aside, a lady is here to show you how it’s done! Long overdue if you ask me. Secret is here to tell you the truth and it’s time you all listened:

Secret believes strength is more than overcoming what makes us sweat. It’s continuing to pursue progress and equality in all industries and sectors. Women may not play professional football (yet), but isn’t it time for a level playing field wherever she wants to play?”
The NFL has no rule about women playing in the league as far as I know. Lloyd was even offered a tryout. I think Buccaneer fans would take whoever could make kick’s consistently no matter what was between their legs. My only concern would be when a Kicker is forced to make a tackle, which happens from time to time in the game. Let’s go to the tape:

#HMBlog: Kwon Alexander returns to Tampa Bay, gets ejected for a hit & then gets a game ball?

It was a short return for former Buc, Kwon Alexander, it didn’t even last a quarter. Alexander was ejected for a helmet to helmet shot on Buc QB Jameis Winston (whose name I still have to look up how to spell every dang time I mention him). Let’s check out the tape:
Yikes, I’m going to blame at least 2 of Jameis’ interceptions (he threw 3 yesterday) on that hit, his brain was definitely compromised on that one. Look, I don’t think Kwon did it on purpose but to add insult to injury, the 49ers game him a game ball for his effort. For you nerds who don’t know what that means it’s just an acknowledgement by the team for their effort, a trophy.
“I got down late. I gave myself up and he’s just playing football. It’s tough to finish to get out of the way, and fortunately we try to protect the quarterback in this league.”
It was an unfortunate accident and no doubt Alexander will be fined by the league for bursting a few of Jameis brain cells. I think the league should just institute a tit for tat type of element. Jameis should just be able to slap Kwon in the face and all will be forgiven like Pam did to Michael in “The Office”.
The Buccaneers look to bounce back after that smackdown this Thursday against the Panthers. I can’t wait to see what Cam “Lady Gaga” Newton will be wearing this week but it’s sure to be hilarious.
#HMBlog: Oaf of a security guard makes the best tackle so far at Buccaneer Training Camp...of a toddler.

Kids will be kids and oafish security guards will be oafish security guards. Yesterday at Buccaneer Training Camp a kid and an oafish security guard found this out first hand. The youngster ran out onto the practice field as kids are want to do and was captured shortly after by an oafish security guard who made the tackle of the year on the young man. @Rickelodeon23 was able to capture it all on video, so let’s go to the tape!
Oof, poor little fella…and poor oafish security guard. That’s why you always have to keep your head on a swivel, boy! Consider this a valuable lesson learned…

Sad news this weekend, Daisy Mae, Devin White’s favorite horse died from dehydration. He took to Facebook to share the news with fans:
That’s a bummer, man. Some good news for Devin though, he finally inked his first professional football contract this past Saturday, a 4 year deal. We’re happy to have you in Tampa Bay, Devin, and I hope cashing those fat checks can be some consolation. The Buccaneers open Training Camp on July 25th.

#HMB 259 - Return of Fitzmagic
Hey gang, welcome to the week. It was a tough one for the return of the man, myth and near legend Ryan Fitzpatrick. He took over the starting Quarterback job for the Bucs for the time being and it didn’t even up great on Sunday, although he had a pretty dang good game stat wise. Threw for 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. My prediction for a Bucs win was dashed almost immediately when the Panthers opened up a can whoop ass in the first half, scoring 35 points and putting Fitz “far behind the 8 ball”. God I hate that phrase…
So what’s the deal? The real problem is the Defense and Special Teams. You can’t give up 35 points in the first half and expect to win that game. The D is abysmal, like historically bad. The Kicker was pretty good yesterday but he hasn’t been this season and the Bucs appear to be cursed at that position since the STAPH saga and releasing Matt Bryant (who kicked a game winner against the Bucs a few weeks ago). The season appears to be a loss at this point. They just can’t win with the Defense they have now. As great as Fitz has been I think it’s time to just see if Winston is the guy for the future. Play him the rest of the way and see if he’s worth that 5th year 20 million dollar option or if it’s time to clean house and start over once again. It’s hard being a fan of this team, they’ve been so bad for so long and there just doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. They acquire lots of talent but can’t get the wins.

This week on the show we talk about a new dating service only for Donald Trump supporters to find love. In spite of what comedians tell you on Twitter, everyone deserves love, even those people who had the audacity to vote for the guy representing the other major party in America. The Buccaneers beat the Browns on Sunday and a new meme was born, make me famous, Internet! Elizabeth Warren took her DNA test thingy to prove she was a Native America and it turned out, she WAS! She’s 1/1,024th Native American! Only, DNA don’t prove Native American ancestry and that number is so small that it’s inconsequential. Most tribes you have to be at least 1/16th to be even considered as part of the tribe. What a total self own, good gosh. Donny is driving these people completely insane. He doesn’t give a crap about her and her heritage anyway, he was just goofing on her because he’s an asshole. Of course, there was an issue with him saying that he would donate 1 million dollars to her if she proved her Native American heritage and then he said he didn’t say that…he did. However, she didn’t prove her heritage, she’s 1/1,024 potentially, maybe, possibly since as we discussed those tests don’t prove heritage. So no, they lose again. Stop trying to keep up with this maniac, you’ll never get the edge on playing his game. Content first, always, even at my peril. I only hope that my bad luck brings some sort of entertainment to you, that’s all I ever really wanted anyway out of this life…
Dating is tough but online dating is a whole different beast (sometimes both literally and figuratively). If you don’t play though, you’ll never win and there are millions of other’s like me out there. The human mind doesn’t do well with more than 3 options for a choice and science has shown that more options actually make us miserable. It seems counterintuitive but it’s true. Tim Pool also put out a video talking about why more young people aren’t getting married and it, just like anything else in today’s world has to do a lot with politics:

Can you feel it? It's finally here, football is back and the whimsy and excitement for me is in full force. Every year, the past decade or so I say it out loud. "This year is the Bucs year, I have a good feeling about this team." Weeks after that, my hopes are dashed and I begrudgingly tune in to watch lack luster performances and loss after loss mount up and I wonder why I bother with this team...but that's sports. You enjoy your team while they're good and you stick with them when they're not and in our cases here in Tampa Bay it's the latter.
I have a good feeling about this team this year! I do, I shouldn't but I do. This week on the pod, former Buccaneer & current radio dude Ian Beckles stops by and talks me down from my expectations.
