#HMB 236 - Take a Knee, I've Got Some News for You with Tampa News Force (@TampaNewsForce)
John Jacobs and Josh Santos from TampaNewsForce.com stop by The #HMB on 05/25/2018.
Hang on a minute, take a knee. It was kind of a back-burner issue at this point but the players who opted to take a knee during the National Anthem at NFL games are back in the news. Earlier last week the NFL announced a policy to fine teams whose players opt to take a knee during the ceremony. So, everyone is freaking out again. For the vast majority, it's another tribal issue and you feels a certain way about it based on whether you have a D or an R next to your name on your Voter ID Card. If you're a D, Trump is an A-Wipe and all of a sudden you're worried about rights again and if you have an R next to your name you like the move because these players are disrespecting the country and military and those things rule. Again, however, this is another thing where it's not black & white, nuance exists. I thought a lot about it this week because I see both sides of the argument. I believe that people should have the right to protest peacefully but I also agree that you shouldn't necessarily have the right do it at your place of business. From what I can tell, the kneeling thing started as a statement against a perceived injustice of police brutality against black Americans. Now agree or disagree with the sentiment, it has nothing to do with military or America but that compartmentalized issue. You can't blame the other side for believing it's about bashing America though seeing as the protest takes place during the time when the anthem is played. It's a timing thing. When else would the players have the time during a game to make that statement during a game? They wouldn't, it's kind of the only time. Should they? I mean, look, the bottom line for me is these guys are at work and if the boss says "not on my time" then fair enough. If they're activists outside of the game then there's little the NFL and owners can do about it; so players, save it for interviews and social media and just stand during the anthem. It's apparently part of the job.
Well, now that issue is solved, get up and let's get to the goods. Tampa News Force is in the building. It's a fascinating concept trying to make the news entertaining and funny. It's not the Daily Show it's more hitting the streets and just asking people involved, "what's going on here"? It's weird, to be frank but oddly engaging. It's brought criticism from major news outlets like the Tampa Bay Times' Tony Marrero and Howard Altman who thought it was in poor taste and after a brief Twitter spat, John went to confront them and ask why they were upset with what he was doing...as journalists do:
It's just a different spin on news but it's not fake. Tampa News Force is just asking what's going on and trying to also bring some comedic flare to it. I know that most journalists see themselves us some moral gate-keeper but people are sick of it. Go cry on your blog and just tell us what's happening in the world, A-wipes...
I know many are over-worked and underpaid and just miserable people in general. I work in radio, I get it but lighten up would ya? Anyway, Tampa News Force is bringing comedy and journalism together in one evening at the Tampa Improv on May 31st. You can get free tickets if you enter code "TNF" at checkout. #HMB 235 - Game on with Ryan Geddes (@RyaNoobHCS)
Newly crowned "Halo 5" World Champion Ryan Geddes stops by The Homemade Broadcast 5/10/2018.
What a time to be alive. The average video game player is 31 years old; which is fairly shocking in it's own right but it's not just that folks are getting sucked into this virtual world but it's finally been monetized for their effort. Ryan Geddes is one of these young professionals who have turned a hobby into a career, earning thousands of dollars so far in his nearly a decade of going "pro" and earned himself a world championship in Halo 5 earlier last week. He lives a life kind of like an athlete. He get's signed to contacts to play with other gamers on a team and is rewarded with endorsements for good performances. Hailing from Zepherhills, he now calls St. Pete home. He stopped by the pod this week to talk about how he got into Professional Gaming. Check it out here:

#HMB 234 - I'm Offended That You're Offended
I'm sorry you feel that way.
It's been a whirlwind week. The thing with time is that there is never enough of it. I got to do some cool stuff this week and got a lot of airtime on The Bone including filling in on the morning show which was a hell of an experience. No one cares though, you still gotta get your stuff done when you say you will so this weeks pod I'm all by my lonesome stuttering and stammering my way though this weeks stories that caught my eye. This week it's mostly about people being offended- a professor got in trouble for making an old elevator joke and a local journalist finds The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art problematic for perpetuating stereotypes or some bullcrap. As we all know, art needs to be totally historically accurate. She caught a lot of flack for the article from readers so I feel bad for kind of piling on but seriously, get a grip, ASAP. Kitsch? Sure, but it's not a problem, it's just tacky art that one person dislikes. Welcome to my life, everyday. Anyhoo, check out the pod below:

#HMB 233 - Livin' in a canoe down by the river! with Kevin Eckelkamp & Nate Lastinger
I've never really had that drive to push my body and mind to the limit. I exercise just so I can continue to fit into a 36 waist and I'm not happy about having to do it. I admire it though. You have to be a special kind of person to take on a challenge like Kevin Eckelkamp and Nate Lastinger are trying to do. They are trying to beat the world record time of going down the Missisissippi River in a canoe. Kevin's uncle set the record nearly 30 years ago (since broken) and after his passing, Kevin wanted to find a way to honor his memory. He and Nate are going to break the record for him. It's gonna be a grueling slog- battling the elements, wildlife and probably each other at some points during the 2 week trip. It's going to be a voyage that will probably pull them even closer together though in the end. Check out the podcast below to learn more about their journey and visit their website over at RiverRecord.us. You'll be able to follow the trip, track their progress and donate to their journey with a portion of the proceeds going to the American Heart Association.

#HMB 232 - Nerdy Tech Alert with Joe Davison (@joeygigglepants)
Joe Davison & your boy after recording 4/25/2018.
Kanye West, can you believe it? He's a traitor to many of you now. Most of you hate his guts now. He's a pariah, or an Uncle Tom or even privileged. His crime of course was saying that he liked the president. No, not the president of Syria or North Korea or anything but the president of America- our president. This, of course is a sin. Many on the left side of the political spectrum view it as a sin because politics has become a religion for them. There is something in human nature that needs a higher power, something to believe it. They've shunned God and replaced it with the State. People on the right typically have their Jesus, so they don't have room for another deity in their heart. Make fun of them all you want, because it's fun, but it's way less detrimental than people who worship the State, because the State is real. I see this weird hypocrisy everywhere. The orange Cheeto we have as president now is a racist, sexist, everyhing-ist and they are literally begging to disarm the populace. They can't seem to fathom how that may be an issue against their main narrative. My friends walk around with Obama earnings, even now, and lament about the good ol' days with their good pal Barry in office. He's the dad they always wanted because either their dad sucks or went and got a pack of smokes 25 years ago and never came back home. Is there anything more off-putting than liking the president? Maybe wearing a new leather jacket but that's about it. Did you like your principal too back in high school? Yuck. I like that Kanye West came out for Trump because it's sending these dorks into a god dang tizzy. He's such a big star, probably the most famous person in the world (aside from Trump) and he totally bitch-slapped these parishioners with a few tweets. He's Martin Luther nailing the reformation directly to these plebes heads and they scorn him for it. Can you imagine having to apologize for saying something like, "Black people don't have to be democrats." Well, Chance The Rapper had to earlier this week. The civil war is here, it's being fought online and those of us who stand up for individuality, free speech and free thought just got a new General. May he lead us to salvation and vanquish our enemies...although, he will probably end up in the loony-bin.
Anyhoo, local filmmaker and actor Joe Davison stopped by this week. He played the "Nerdy Tech" on Stranger Things 2 and has done a plethora of independent movies. He stopped by to talk about some new upcoming movies that are going into production this summer, a new board game he invented and the Jolt Production School he's apart of happening this May. #HMB 231 - Creative Loafing Tampa Swapcast with Scott Harrell (@harrellscott)
Creative Loafing Tampa Editor & Chief Scott Harrell with a dog, name of Bartleby, official mascot of HMBradio.com!
If there is one group of folks I have more disdain for right now than comedians it's probably the Jews...no, no, no, I'm kidding obviously. That title would most definitely go to the news media. I think there has probably always been a bias with journalists, it’s hard to avoid, they are human (I think) after all but we didn’t have google back in “the day” to fact check them. I know a few journalists personally and most of them write about Harry Potter and comic books and stuff which is a great gig if you can get it but isn’t that just called a blog? What’s the point of even going to journalism school? You don’t have to learn how to cite sources to drone on about how Trump is actually Voldemort. They will talk about “Faux News” at great lengths and then counter an argument with a ThinkProgress.com article with no sense of irony. They generally think a lot of themselves. They are the bastion of enlightenment who are put on Earth to inform these plebs of not how it is, but how it should be, and they hold up signs for their social media accounts saying as much. Most of us have a word for this type of journalism: propaganda.
Workin' 9-5 to get back to their cats.
The snarky tweets to politicians from journalists I follow on Twitter tells me all I need to know about the media-class on the whole. The political divide is at an all time high. For every Think Progress there is a Breitbart. For every CNN there is a FOX News. It’s a challenge to find outlets who are moderate (if you know of any, please let me know). A lot of these outlets don’t even write about news anymore but events that happened that they manipulate into a smear against the political party they don’t like, and they usually get it wrong.
These outlets post videos taken years back in a completely different country and present it as the current bombing of some other country that the US is bombing today. It makes me wonder if these people are just insanely bad at their jobs or if they are being intentionally deceitful. I’m unsure about which is worse.
It’s totally unacceptable and they should be held accountable either way. Though, it’s also important to realize what these people are and recognize there is an agenda. We have google and we need to use it. Overall, the responsibility is on us, the public, to be a smarter consumer. If there’s one place in media where commentary is acceptable though it’s the alt-weekly papers. Creative Loafing has been a staple here in the bay area for decades and are some of the best at it. They’re upfront and honest about where they stand and what they are doing. You have to have respect for that. It’s a ballsy move to say what you want at the risk of hurting your bottom line. New Editor and Chief Scott Harrell stops by The Homemade Broadcast to talk about his vision for the paper and how media is evolving.

#HMB 230 - The Problem with Comedians but Brainquility is Cool.
Tom Eckelcamp lookin' handsome as all hell on 4/10/2018.
I grew up watching The Simpsons. It's been a staple of Pop Culture for three decades now and arguably the most groundbreaking cartoon of all time. I never thought about race while watching the show. I mean, The Simpsons are yellow but I guess they're supposed to be white(?)...I guess. About a year ago, some unfunny, Indian American comedian made some documentary about how the character Apu, a character in The Simpson's who owns the Kwik-E-Mart is problematic because the character is voiced by Hank Azaria, a Jewish man and it propels the stereotype that Indian-American's run convenience stores. The Simpsons finally addressed the allegations on last weeks show. I'm amazed by how un-fun a lot of comedians are today and how many hold back in order to not potentially offend. Comedy is mostly mean spirited and stereotypes are patterns that people have noticed over time because, well, many are true. It never applies to ALL people of a group though. NOBODY thinks that. I think we are all aware that we are all individuals. Of course, no stink was ever made about Groundskeeper Willie or anything because who the frig cares? It's a joke. It's time to start telling these bums to shut up, which The Simpsons essentially did in their response. Comedians need to learn to take a joke too.
Anyhoo, Tom Eckelcamp is one of the founders of the Brainquility Music Festival happening on April 21st at the Safety Harbor Waterfront Park. In this weeks podcast we talk about the upcoming fest. I also have a pair of VIP tickets we are going to be given away. Check out my Twitter to find out how to win & listen to the podcast:

#HMB 229 - Ku Ku for Racist Jokes with Zac Townsend (@smacktownsend)
Myself and a local idiot published 4/6/2018.
First, I talked a bit about radio and podcasting with Creative Loafing Tampa earlier this week. Check that out HERE. Otherwise, another week and more comedians getting into trouble for making a jokes. This one was even a bit more unusual since it was Esther Ku, a Korean woman who got scolded for making jokes about...Asians. Yes. Not kidding. I wish I had 1/8th the confidence these people have who point these things out. Humorless buffoons who are suddenly experts in comedy. Of course, this is just a micro-amount of people who are really upset but the story gets picked up by the media which half point out it's absurdity and the others are oddly amplifying the cries of offense of the joke and those white's bold enough to defend her. Of course, you will never convince these people that an attempt of humor is hyperbole and comedians should just stick to making fun of safe targets: airplane food and white men. Genius! This week, Zac Townsend stops by and we talk this crap and some other stuff. Listen below and tell a friend about the show, would ya? Thanks and I like you more than a friend.

#HMB 228: Going Green, MAAAANNNNNNNNNNN with Nick Garulay from My Florida Green
Nick Garulay from MyFloridaGreen.com & Your Boy Bill after recording The Homemade Broadcast on 03/29/2018.
I friggin lost it. I think I have a fairly good grip on my emotions. I can usually stop and think about things, try to handle it as rationally as possible. Not this time; I flew into a full blown screeching rage. I'm in the shower, all soaped up and the god damn tension bar holding up the shower curtain fell. I put it back up and it fell again. I can't twist to adjust the bar because I'm all covered in soap. The bathroom floor is a swimming pool now. I take the bar and slam it into the wall so hard it's bent at a 45 degree angle now. It's broken, I have to go buy a new one. I used to smoke a lot of pot in my early 20's and it really did help me with my anxiety, anger and overall emotional state. It was too good. Life was a big giant cloud and it couldn't do much to affect me negatively because I was stoned most of the time. I abused it, I think. I gave it up because I wanted to feel life pushing down on my a bit and I started to work for things I wanted and goals I wanted to pursue. I'm certainly not against pot but for me, I'm lazy when I use marijuana. It's something I'd like to come back to in the future for sure but I need to get to where I'm going first. It makes movies and sex exponentially even better at bare minimum. There's more to it though than just that. I've seen people in my family use it for medical reasons and it dramatically improved their life for the better. This week we're talking to Nick Garulay from MyFloridaGreen to talk about Medical Marijuana in Florida, innovation and misconceptions:

#HMB 227 - Kick his ass, Seabass! with Sebastian Coolidge (@sebastiancoolidge)
Sebastian Coolidge a& your boy: 03/21/2018
Would you rather, if you had to choose: get walked in on the bathroom or walk in on someone in the bathroom? I’ve asked numerous people this over the past few days and while the answer varies, the reason for their choice is the same: “it would push the embarrassment on to the other person”. I’ve had both of these situations happen to me; they’re both humiliating in different ways. If you get walked in on, it’s the exposure type of embarrassment. They’re seeing a part of you that they probably would never see but also in the most vulnerable position you can be in. If you walk in on someone in the bathroom, there is an underlying perception of being a voyeur and a creep. Sure, it was an “accident”, psycho. You didn’t know someone was in here? Yea, okay Deviant Don. So, if you have to choose to be walked in on or to walk in on someone, what would you choose? Leave a comment below or leave a text/voice message on the #HMBradio line (813) 693-2124.
The question itself is a great ice breaker. Interviewing people I know a little bit or not at all is tough. I’m always afraid I’m going to say something off-putting, which I do a lot and lose the guest. Then the podcast is weird and tedious trying to win them back and trying to get them to open up a bit. It happens rarely and most of it is my paranoia but it can happen. I think it’s a good way to start cold with someone you don’t know. It will lower their defenses and get them thinking about the question at hand as opposed to sitting across a table from some dude they don’t really know in his apartment and wondering if they (me) are going to murder them. I know that by saying I’m trying to lower their defenses sounds like that’s what I’m trying to do but I swear, I’m not.
This week on the podcast, prolific St. Pete muralist/artist/designer Sebastian Coolidge stops by. I always admired Sebastian and liked his story. He moved here to St. Pete from Kansas City…uhhh…Kansas? No, Missouri? Uhm…one of those places to pursue art and was one of the first to just ask for a wall. It was on the now defunct Freshly Squeezed store across from The Bends on 1st Ave N. He went and asked the owners if he could paint a mural on the store and they said, “OK, sure”. That spawned more and more business that wanted him to paint something on their businesses and now that’s his job now: painting. I always love to see someone making a living from what they like doing. That’s really all you can ask for in life, the American Dream. Check out the podcast below:

#HMB 226 - Creepin' Out Nessa with Zac Townsend (@smacktownsend)
Local idiot and occasional comedian Zac Townsend and Your Boy: 3/15/2018.
“I could feel you burning a hole through the back of my head.” If you judge anyone by how you would handle a situation, you’re going to end up disappointed but that doesn’t mean you can’t hate that person for how they handled it. I was staring a hole through this woman’s head because I’m standing there in the Publix checkout line with my hands full and she didn’t bother to put the plastic divider up on the conveyer belt so I could put my yogurts up on there. It’s not only lazy, but it shows such a lack of common courtesy for your fellow people-kind. You know that those people don’t replace the toilet paper on the holder after they clog up the toilet with their Mac and Cheese poo’s. It’s the little things that keep society chugging along and putting the divider up on the conveyer belt at the grocery store is one of those little things. It’s important to know where you’re at in space. Don’t talk in the middle of the aisle in the parking lot at the grocery store, either. You’re holding people up with your sashay and I know most of the time its ignorance and not ill intent but we have to take some time to look around. Also, can we start calling people out for rude yet innocent behavior? We don’t have to be rude but can’t we at least notice out loud? Make a joke out of it and laugh when you’re calling these dopes out. That usually disarms people to the point that they don’t get defensive and it allows some time for reflection afterward. You’ll truly be doing God’s work and make for a better tomorrow for you and I.
Anyway, Vanessa Rao was supposed to be in this week but had to cancel at the last minute for work. I initially thought it had to do with local idiot Zac Townsend double tapping an old Instagram photo from my phone to be an ass but she wasn’t on The Johnny B Show either this week so I feel a little better. This week we’re talking about the MLB player who beat up his girlfriend on video, March Madness and how Zac isn’t as sneaky as his thinks he is. Also, I screwed up the recording on this one and it accidentally recorded from the external mic instead of through my mixer. I’m dumb and I’m sorry but things of it as a modern art sound experiment.

#HMB 225 - The Week that Perished in Tampa Bay (March 5th to the 10th 2018)
This week I take a look at some of the biggest stories from the week that was here in Tampa Bay and I complain about pollen. I know it’s integral to the ecosystem, our planet and life itself but seriously, frig the heck off. This season has been worse than others here in Tampa Bay. I managed to dodge the flu this year but this tree-cum is wreaking havoc on me. Looks like relief will be on its way by the beginning of April but until then, watch your eyes because these trees are bukakke-ing everybody.
Unfortunately, in this weeks episode I do a lot of reading out loud which is not only difficult for me to do but probably a little hard to hear too but I did my best, OK? Gun control, crazy cops and crazier people are the topics this week:

Russia's Prime Target: Tampa Bay? & #HMB 224 - Where there's a Will there's a Johnny B (@johnnybcomedy)
Johnny B & Your Boy Bill in the Fat Cave Studio 2/28/2018
I’ve only met one person from Russia in my life. Actually, I think he was from Ukraine or somewhere Eastern European but for this instance its close enough. He was one of the weirdest human beings I have ever met in my life. He gave me a business card as he introduced himself. It wasn’t from his job, it was just a card he had made on one of those “10,000 cards for 3 bucks” websites. It was his card- I can’t remember exactly what it said but I held onto it for years because it was so funny. It was even funnier because this dude was one-hundred-percent-serious. It said something along the lines of “Liver of Life and lover of women” with his name and phone number on it on top of a photo of a glass of red wine. What a psycho, right? He was almost an albino with fine, almost white hair. He looked like a little naked mole rat. He spoke English well but spoke like he was part of the monarchy, it was highborn British English like he was over-the-top auditioning for a school play putting on a Shakespeare production.
That can’t be what normal Russians are like. I would never want to go to Russia in a million years, it looks like it sucks, sorry. They’re famous for their auto insurance scams where people try to get hit for the insurance money and it has become such a big business that everyone has a dash-cam to prove their innocence. Sure, it’s entertaining for the internet but holy-moly, what a risk. Is potential death worth it for a few hundred bucks? In Russia, maybe…
We’re all talking about the Russians now. They stand accused as being the biggest troll country in the world that use the internet and unsuspecting citizens of the US to carry out their agenda which appears to be to disrupt and get us to fight with each other. From Facebook posts that I’ve seen, it appears to be working like gangbusters.
The other threat, of course, is a Nuclear Holocaust with the nation and mutually assured destruction of the world. “The Russian president presented a video animation suggesting Florida – home of the US military’s central command – is a nuclear target” was the by-line in the Guardian last week with a picture of King Vlad next to St. Pete’s own Grey Fox and sultry bearded Mayor Rick Krisman flanking him to the left. Me—owwwwwww. “We trust the inclusion of our region in that video was simply random,” he said of the video. One thing is for sure- if it goes down, it will be swift and painless for us over in Tampa Bay.

THIRST gets quenched: Jared Hernandez arrested in St. Pete for vandalism.
Soon after Jared Hernandez, the artist formerly known as THIRST stopped by the podcast a slew of mural defacements started happening around town. I got a few messages asking if I thought it was Jared who was doing them. I dunno, I still don’t…but if I had to place a bet I’d say, “yup”.
No arrests were made in the defacement's in spite of a lot of local media coverage and comments from numerous residents naming Jared as the perpetrator on the Facebook posts. Things seemed to cool down after Derek Donnelly’s building and van we’re vandalized. Things seemed to get back to normal. Murals were getting repaired and new ones were on the way to competition. It appeared to be over. Then I saw a cryptic Instagram story on Jared’s account which is now lost in the ether but hinted at an arrest. A photo of a painting of Rasta that lived outside the 1 of 1 Customs shop with a freshly painted mustache and glasses was posted on Jared’s Instagram page with the caption:
“Biggest imposter award goes to Gary Taylor I Faithfully dedicated my time and efforts in helping this man make his own business prosperous. But you can& #39;t expect someone to remain faithful to you if you consistently undercut them on jobs maliciously. But when I express myself in an artistic way, people can& #39;t even take it with a smile and keep it moving. There& #39;s only grown babies who can& #39;t handle Street ethics. Which results in two Undercovers, seven officers, and a SWAT officer with a shepherd. The most expensive doodle I know 2,000”
Jared was caught in the act early morning on Feb. 22nd by a local resident who followed him after allegedly spray painting the ‘stache and glasses the Rasta sign. Police arrested Jared soon after and since he had a previous conviction for Criminal Mischief back in 2015 the new charge was been upgraded to a felony. According to Bay News 9, Jared is now under investigation for the mural defacement's.

So, did Jared do it? I dunno, but if I had to place a bet, I’d say, “yup”. I guess we’ll all find out soon enough. I reached out to both Jared and Rasta but haven’t yet received a response from either. If they do, I’ll be sure to update this post. Check out the podcast with Jared here:
#HMB 223 - ...but it's my Turkey Leg & Going Viral with Zebra Corner
Zac Townsend & Ali from Zebra Corner stop by 2/21/2018
I really love comedy but I've grown to really despise comedians. Most are really nice people when you talk to them in person but most tend to fit a profile. They're many things at once on opposite sides of the spectrum. They tend to be the most un-confident-confident people in the galaxy. The way they speak on the internet is far from how they talk in person. Online, you'd think they had a spine. Most, are also horribly unfunny which is a problem for obvious reasons. They seem to not understand their craft. Many don't understand satire and in an effort to be "inclusive" have made many subjects off-limits so most of them just bitch about their Dad's and other heterosexual white men, comic books or the worst of the worst...REPULICANS. Granted, those are also some of my favorite people to trash but I also like the variety of anyone being a target because there are a lot of A-Hole's in every subset. Also, their only "People of Color" friend is the black dude who is nice to them at Open Mic's just in case they ever put on a show and want to be booked. One of our friends that moved to Los Angeles to continue a comedy career said it's even worse over there and I believe it. Make an off-color joke that doesn't pop and you might be banned forever. Poof, your dream is dead because the dunce that runs the open mic is thinks your "having a hard time with chop sticks" joke bombed. I saw it with my own eyes; a pink dreadlocked, drunk woman curse out a comic out in the middle of the open mic because he refereed to his dog as a "bitch". I heard about one of these local "comics" calling for a boycott of Dave Chappelle over his transgender joke in his latest Netflix special. Yea, good luck with that. I saw on Facebook, a comic who now lives in Portland, Oregon post a picture of a swastika with a heart drawn around it on her car with a "This was on my car this morning. Fucking. Portland." caption because as we know, Portland is known for it's large intolerant Nazi population. They can't decipher basic satire because they're either dumb or intentionally naive, perhaps both. Dude, it's a JOKE. They are MESSING with you. As Zac pointed out, it's the equivalent of drawing a penis. Go to any public school bathroom and it's filled with drawings of dicks and swastikas because they're awful things to draw. It's a juvenile act that still makes most of us giggle, even as adults. THEY'RE FUCKING WITH YOU! If you're going to make jokes the first thing you need to be able to do is to take a joke. Nothing should be off limits, give things a chance to be funny because trust me, if you don't laugh with all the things going on in this world, you will certainly cry.
They're not all bad though. Ali from Zebra Corner, a homegrown Tampa Bay sketch comedy collective anchored by the fan favorite character "Mahk" stopped by this week to talk about how the group got started and going viral earlier this week with their hilarious parody of an Apple and NASCAR commercial:
Zac Townsend, banned occasional co-host is on this one too. The ban was temporarily lifted, however, it is now back in full effect. We talk about the local comedy scene in Tampa Bay, the challenges of navigating the entertainment industry and the rise of new media. Check out the podcast here:

#HMB 222 - RaYbor City & Saint Valentine's Revenge with Joe Robertson
Having a blast celebrating Valentine's Day by myself: 2/14/2018.
Ah, love is in the air and it's making me nauseous to be quite frank. Nah, not really. The older I get the more sentimental I'm gradually becoming. I actually like holidays, they make the mundane a little more fun. Sure, they are remarkably hokey but any any sway from deviation is welcome at the adult pace of life. Even those holiday's that remind you just how alone you are in the world, like Valentine's Day can put a pep in your step as illogical as that sounds. This week on the podcast we're talking about the new love affair the Tampa Bay Rays seem to have with Ybor City as they announced early last week that they intend to move the team there and build a new stadium over there, no doubt on the taxpayer dime. I, for one, say goodbye and good luck. St. Pete and the Rays have had a intimate relationship for over 20 years and most marriages don't even last that long. It was a good run but as always with these types of things, someone is the pitcher and someone is the catcher. Someone is bound to get F-ed.
Joe Robertson from Taphouse 61 stops by this week to talk about the awkward firsts we've had in our love lives over the years and the one's that continue to happen on this weeks podcast.

#HMB 221: Gettin' Spooky with Natassja Leyba (@NatassjaLeyba)
Natassja Leyba & your boy 2/7/2018
And we're back. I'm all moved in to the new "studio" which may be haunted after I stalked, I mean googled the name of the former tenant and found an obituary from September 2017 stating that she died in her home. Yikes! No signs of haunting's yet, but I'll be sure to keep you in on the loop.
Sports is over for the rest of the year since the Philadelphia Eagles took down the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady and the rest of those bean eating deviants, the New England Patriots. Philadelphia fandom is legendary for it's awfulness. They hate Santa Clause for goodness sake. There are plenty of examples of Eagles fans being Eagles fans if you just google "Eagles Fans" but I'll save you the trouble: this, this and this, to name a few. There are a lot of bad fan-bases out there (looking at you Chargers fans...) but Philly truly takes the cake and frankly, I give them props for acknowledging what they are- complete and utter animals. This fact was proven after the Super Bowl win after a man ate doo-doo. Yup, he ate doo-doo. Let's take a look at the tape:
Wowza. God bless you Philadelphia, congrats on your win and the sooner you finish burning that town to the ground the better. Anyhoo, Natassja Leyba stopped by this week. She's a reporter and kind of looks like Kenny Powers' wife from Eastbound and Down, don't she? I enjoy it very much. We talk about some of her paranormal experiences and a certain Rays player may not be a big fan of hers. Find out on this weeks podcast:

#HMB 220: New Diggs and Livin' Free with Jess Mears (@Jess4Liberty)
My political ideals have not changed since I was a teenager. I haven't budged, but the spectrum has seemed to shift somewhere along the way. Keep in mind, the spectrum isn't just Liberal or Conservative but there is also a Authoritarian and Libertarian line. I'm a freedom guy; I want everyone to be able to do whatever it is they want as 2 consenting adults as long as it's not hurting someone else (feelings don't count). I don't care who you marry, what you put into your body or whether you cut off pieces of it. Politics really comes down to 2 types of people: "people who want to be left alone & people who won't leave them alone."
I also prefer not to be apart of groups, especially when it's for an ideology. You should be able to change how you feel about different positions without being offensive to a political party line. I'm about as moderate as you can get politically. Here are my Political Compas Quiz RESULTS, if you're curious. I've been called anything from a fascist to a communist depending on which communist or fascist I'm fighting with. When you're pissing off extremists on either side of the spectrum I think you're truly doing God's work. Holidays with family and friends can get tedious at times though.
I guess if I absolutely had to pick a group to line up with, it would be the Libertarians. The great thing about Libertarians though is they're cool with me not wanting to join up, they get it. I think that's where the Libertarian Party is having such a tough time taking root even though membership has been steadily growing over the years. Libertarians are too libertarian to a fault, even if it costs them a net-benefit collectively. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.
Jess Mears is the Development Manager for the Libertarian Party. She's not an official spokesman or anything but she stopped by the podcast this week to talk about the party here locally and nationally. Check out the podcast:

#HMB 219: St. Pete Art War! Language Police! Emergency Poop Stories!
Zac Townsend & Your Boy 1/26/2018
This got out of hand. Quickly. After the THIRST podcast I got a call from another local artist here in St. Pete who wanted to counter some of the qualms that were voiced on the show. Absolutely, I want to hear what everyone has to say. Derek Donnelly stopped by earlier this week and we had a chat about the art scene, his counter to THIRST. He gave THIRST a lot of props for being one of the originators of the scene and it was pretty civil for the most part. It sounded like the axe was on it's way to being buried and it was time to move on from this whole beef. Then the mural defacement's started happening. Most of them being THIRST's own work, some not.
I don't know. The vandal remains at large. Over $10,000 dollars in damage and now the St. Pete Policy are asking for help in finding the perpetrator. So. Yea. I don't know. Everyone involved is staying pretty quiet. Derek said I could release the episode after he sent me pictures of his defaced van:
These are all allegations. No one knows exactly who is doing this, although people think they have a pretty good idea. All I know is that it's just a flat out shame. Look for a future podcast with Derek soon on HMBradio.com.
Anyhoo, my buddy, comic and writer Zac Townsend came by to talk about some of this craziness going on, the language police are angry with comic Tom Segura over some language in his last Netflix special so we dive into that and finish up with some good Ol' Fashioned Poop Stories. Check out the podcast:

#HMB 218: Facebook is a Shithole & Hello Darlin' with Arielle Stevenson
I screwed up. I was under the impression that things were cooling down a bit and the hysteria of the political climate had started to settle. I thought I could make a joke...OK, not a joke, but a criticism without stirring the pot. Boy, was I mistaken after nearly 300 comments logged on my personal Facebook page. Our president made a comment regarding letting in immigrants from "Shithole Countries". I watched from the Social Media Mountain while some of my friends and acquaintances became apoplectic with rage over the comment and voice the displeasure on their accounts lambasting the sentiment. I would certainly agree- it's not a very nice thing to say and we should expect more from our Commander in Chief. However, we all know what he is and are you really surprised?
I made a comment poking fun at my fellow white compadres mocking the fact that how dare he say that about a country even though before today they never thought about these places before today. They may have donated $10 to the Red Cross during the disaster relief telethon a few years ago but that's the only finger they've ever lifted for these places. They don't really care and their rage over a word was silly because the only way they visit these places is if it were on a 5-Star, All-Inclusive Resort that was protected by armed guards (most of them hate guns too). Most responded with a "thumbs up", others turned it into a personal debate about Trump vs Obama (for whatever reason) and then some just got plain mad at me about it.
I'm just sick of the phoniness. The holier than thou fake outrage. The pearl-clutching lambasting from these people who have little to no reason to complain about anything. A friend of mine called the comment "tasteless" and went on to infer that I condone the statement (nope, I don't) and another, Crocodile Deathspin from SunGhosts, a rock-band based in Miami went on to call me just about every name in the book (safely from behind his brand new Macbook, I'm sure). I liked the kid when I met him when the whole band came in for a podcast the beginning of last year but I haven't talked to any of those guys since but we were all Facebook buds.
He went ahead and decided I needed a good scolding and digitally wagged his finger in my face while hurling expletives at me, totally misunderstanding what my critique was. I didn't bite, I'm not gonna fight with this dude over a misunderstanding. He continued his tirade from many comments even after other jumped in to defend me and at one point concluded that he understood what I was saying but that it just wasn't funny. Well, it wasn't really a joke. I replied that he clearly didn't understand what I was trying to say because I wrote it, and I understand what I was trying to say. No one knows better what you actually meant more than other people. By this point he has removed me as a friend and since my post is set to friends only, he was unable to respond or see any future comments (consider yourself lucky Croc, this crap went on for days). So adios, buddy, I'll miss our online interactions that we never had and if you're ever in town and want to do a podcast: holla, holla, holla!
Anyhoo, podcast this week welcomes back local Renaissance Woman, Arielle Stevenson. She has a new venture called Hello Darlin' Records, a mobile record shop based out of a restored VW Bus. Local idiot/comedian Zac Townsend was visiting so he sat in on this one too. Always good having Zacky Boy around. Check out the podcast below:
